Trail Bicycles Team Report – Carson Damery

A Big Thank You to our sponsors: Sew What, I Sew,
Eatmore Sprouts & Greens Ltd., Rob Nygren Royal Lepage Realtor, Western One, Riverway Dental Inc., Wedler Engineering LLP, Airport Service and Mini-Storage, and Trail Bicycles

"I have been looking forward to this event all year. Last year, I was 1 second off the podium. This year I managed to win by 4 seconds. I enjoyed pre- riding with the team and I was more prepared this year because of that. Even though it was dusty and challenging, the whole team raced really well. Some of the podium results were:

Anja - 1st Beginner women
Eva - 3rd Beginner women

Tristan - 3rd place single crown men
Jeff Beeston - 4th place single crown men

I hope to see everyone at the race next year!

Thank you to Colin Wilson, the Island Cup Series, and UROC for hosting the event.

Since this race was in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast we needed to do a lot of traveling.
The trip started when my dad came and picked me up from school so we could drive to Comox and catch a ride with the Nilson’s. Well we made it to the Comox ferry on time but the night went downhill from there, with the Powell River ferry running half hour late we got to the Salterry Bay ferry terminal just in time to see the ferry leave. Although they said they did hold it up for seven minutes…. so we waited the four hours for the next ferry.   In that time we went on a really easy ride where I managed to flip over and tear the line on my dropper post. Eventually we got to the bed and breakfast (which was really nice)in time to get to sleep at twelve and wake up at seven. Then we were off to the race.

The course started with a steep and long road climb, then into some rooty single track, then across a road to some loose and steep switchbacks.  Finally we started the descent, you go down some semi flowy fun trails with a super sharp corner every now and then just to throw you off. The bottom of the course had this weird illusion that you were still going up, probably because my seat post was broken. After the race was over some of us were pretty tired.
Congratulations to all the racers who participated!
here’s how the team did: Emilly Jhonston coming 1st u15 women and was the first woman to finish the course.
In u15 men Erik Ashton was 1st, I was 4th place (not bad for a first provincial race with a broken dropper post and remnants of a cold )         and Ian lehton in 5th place.
Keiran Nilsen coming 3rd in u17 even with a bad cold.
On the dad side of things Chuck Ashton came 4th in over 40 men and hats off to Dan Lehton being the only one to tackle the marathon length!!
